Camp in the Cloud is an inclusive and engaging online activity programme, where campers and families can experience the magic of an Over The Wall residential camp without having to leave their home. Campers are given exclusive access to our bespoke Camp in the Cloud platform, where they can engage with a mixture of online and real-life activities. There are opportunities for campers and families to interact in real-time with others who are attending the same camp, through secure message boards and fun video calls. Campers are sent a ‘Seriously Fun Box’ in the post, containing all the resources they need for the activities and games. Please have a look at their Introducing Camp in the Cloud film clip to show you more.
There are four types of camp:
- Health Challenge Camps: for children and teenagers aged 8-17 who are experiencing or have recently experienced serious health challenges. This fun camp gives campers a huge sense of independence, and a chance to meet other their own age who are in a similar position as themselves.
- Sibling Camps: for children and teenagers aged 8-17 who have a brother or sister (of any age) who is currently receiving treatment or experiencing health challenges. Sibling Camps are where the brothers and sisters of children with health challenges can have the focus put on them, and they get to meet others in similar positions as themselves.
- Family Camps: for families who have a child or teenager from birth to 17, who is currently receiving treatment or experiencing health challenges. One of the family members attending must be between 8-17, but it doesn’t have to be the child with the health challenge (it could be a sibling). This is a chance for everyone to enjoy a day together! It also gives parents and guardians the chance to chat to each other. Many different families stay in touch after camp.
- Grown Up Gatherings: For adults only! Our one-evening events, which are solely for the parents and carers of our campers, are the chance to unwind and engage in a fun night which includes a quiz or game!
As you know, for young people facing health challenges, quality of life can be adversely affected by isolation and their inability to participate in many of the everyday activities enjoyed by their friends and peers. Naturally, this often results in a growing lack of self-esteem and confidence which can become a barrier to future growth and development. Over The Wall’s therapeutic programmes are designed to bring about transformational changes to tackle these issues and to ensure the campers finish their experience with a new sense of their abilities and ambitions, and feeling far less isolated. It’s all focussed around the children having a fantastic experience and loads of fun, whilst increasing their independence and self-esteem!
For anyone who does not have a suitable device or wifi / data, please be assured that we can offer loan devices out with data, again there is no charge for this, and we would arrange this direct with the family.
All camps are completely free of charge.
